Nigerian plane crashes in Lagos
Nigeria's civil aviation authority has grounded all Dana Air's aeroplanes after one of its aircraft crashed on Sunday in a busy Lagos suburb.
The commercial aircraft was flying from the Nigerian capital, Abuja, to Lagos when it crashed and burst into flames.
All 153 people on board, and an unknown number on the ground, were killed.
Meanwhile, the country's lawmakers have called for the head of the civil aviation authority to step aside while they carry out an investigation.
Dana Air usually operates to cities around Nigeria out of Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.
Dozens of families have been trying to identify the bodies of the dead, which are being kept in a morgue in a Lagos hospital.
It had been feared that dozens of people on the ground were also killed when the McDonnell Douglas MD-83 crashed into a printing works and residential buildings in Iju, a busy suburb north of the airport.
The BBC's Will Ross in Lagos says although some could still be buried under the rubble, so far the emergency teams have found six additional bodies - a remarkably low number given that it is a densely populated city.
'Great shock'
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) says it will carry out a total system check of Dana Air - including the company's planes, maintenance procedures, personnel and books.
"Their operational licence has been suspended until we carry out their recertification," spokesman Sam Adurogboye told the BBC.
This is standard practice after such an event, Mr Adurogboye says.
The suspension will be lifted if all is found to be in order and the rest of the company's fleet found to be airworthy.
An NCAA investigation into the cause of the crash is under way, and both the flight data and the voice recorder have been recovered.
Aviation Minister Stella Oduah said that the pilot contacted the Lagos control tower just before crashing to say the plane was experiencing trouble.
Our correspondent says there have been reports that the pilot had reported in that mayday call that there were problems with both engines.
On Monday, President Goodluck Jonathan declared three days of national mourning and promised improvements to air safety after he visited the plane crash.
He was there with members of Nigeria's national assembly, who have been meeting on Tuesdayin an emergency session to discuss the plane crash.
Lawmakers are to carry out their own separate investigation into the Dana Air crash - and want the director general of Nigeria's independent civil aviation authority, Harold Demuren, to be suspended until they conclude the probe.
People who suspected their relatives might have been aboard the flight that crashed have also gathered at the Abuja office of Dana Air.
Simon Abah said he went to the office, where a company employee was reading out the names on the passenger manifesto, as he was looking for his nephew Anthony Okara.
"They got to 103 on their list and they called out his name," Mr Abah told BBC's Focus on Africa programme.
"Initially, I couldn't believe it but I had heard his name and since the news had said that no-one in the plane had survived I reasonably assumed that he was dead - and it was with a great shock," he said.
"Anthony's loss to the family cannot be quantified in any language that I can use."
Although Nigeria's air safety record has improved in recent years, the country has a history of major passenger plane crashes - this is the fourth crash in the last decade in which more than 100 people were killed.
Lagos airport is a major hub for West Africa and saw 2.3 million passengers pass through it in 2009, according to the most recent statistics provided by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.

Cargo plane crashes in Ghana capital
A cargo plane has crash landed in Ghana's capital Accra, hitting a bus full of passengers, officials say.
Ten passengers on board the bus were reported to have been killed while all four crew members survived.
Local TV showed the heavily damaged Boeing 727 Allied Air plane lying across a road close to Kotoka International Airport.
Ghana's airport operator said the plane, which had flown from Lagos, Nigeria, overshot the runway.
It said in a statement that the four crew members were receiving treatment at an airport clinic.
"The aircraft collided with a minivan, resulting in 10 confirmed fatalities," the statement added.
Police and troops cordoned off the scene following the incident just after 19:00 GMT on Saturday 2June 2012 .
Ghana's Vice President John Dramani Mahama told reporters at the airport that a thorough investigation would be carried out.
"No early conclusions should be drawn. We should allow investigations to arrive at the actual cause. But I can assure Ghanaians that the situation is under control," he said.
Ghana Airport Company said flights were continuing as normal at the airport.
Kofi Kportufe, head of Ghana's national disaster management agency, praised the emergency services for their quick response, which he said had "averted further disaster".
"This is a sad day for Ghana," he said.
The BBC's West Africa correspondent John James says Ghana's air safety record has been good in recent years.

The amsterdam based Ghanaian rapper called Rudeboy has released his own version of Rack City by American Rapper 'Tyga' now called 'Rack City Amsterdam remix' he has done a 3minute freestyle based on rap music.
Watching the music video that is posted on youtube you can see the rapper flashing with designer bags, louboutin sneakers and fast cars. well now the Ghanaians are taking over in the UK.
the London based Ghanaian group called Vibesquad has 3 young males who formed a group in the year 2005. with in total 5 guys (whoem 2 left in 2009) now orginally 3 with the boys named: Dee (Derrick Abaitey), Pregoo (Kelvin Nana Amoako) and Wizzy (Williams Osei-Obengo) are the latest upcoming artists with their first hit single 'Whine Pon Me' and dropped the big single and video in the year 2011 with 'Dance with me' they then had decided to do a collaboration with other UK based Ghanaian upcoming young artitsts Mista Silva, Flava and Kwamz and had a 'azonto' song called 'Wadi Mi Sika' and are currently working with FUSE (who has already had a hit single 'Azonto' with Ghanaian female rapper Tiffany).
The guys are hoping to work with big artists in the music industry so this is not it for them. The 3 good looking guys who have been performing on stage at Ghana Independence at the 02 Arena, London are looking to drop more hits so africa watch out !

Ghana Music Awards
GHANA GHANA GHANA !
Every year in April is the Music Awards, where the artists have their chance to get an award and be nominated.
this year they had 22 nominies including best artist of the year, high life artist of the year, rapper of the year, gospel artist of the year, album of the year and so on.. but best believe SARKODIE took home 4 Awards including Artist of the year, Most popular song of the year, Best rapper of the year and Vodafone song of the year, being nominated 9 times ! He defo deserved it as he took over last year. Sarkodie this is just the beginning we will see more of you this coming years!
Other winning artists included Kwabena Kwabena with High life artist of the year, 4x4 won Best Group of the year and Efya with female vocal of the year.
To be honest I was expecting an award for artists like Keche, Castro and R2Bees as they have done well during the year, but not winning an award should not stop us from listening to their songs. They are doing pretty well and we will be hearing more from them soon.
Sarkodie once again you did great! even though U go kill me video was very dissapointing!

As you may watch the news there is a hunger crisis in East Africa;
This has left people in Ethiopia and Somalia to die out of hunger. seeing this on TV and reading about this makes me sick and ofcourse caught my attention because it is happening in myownAFRICA. this has been going on for almost a year and I was recently reading about a 11 year old Ghanaian boy who raised money for Somalia. I was very proud and it made me realise that everyone can support. i mean a little will do. We should always remember that AFRICA may have over 50countries but we all become one, so when one is in trouble we should become one and help.
This little boy named Andrew aimed to raise 20m ghana cedis and got to raise 300pounds he told BBC he can do it and guess what as a 11year old he has done perfect.

RAPE VIDEO IN SOUTH AFRICA
the subheading says it all.. RAPE! a very disgusting word!!
a 17 year old in South Africa (apparently has a mental age of a 5 year old) has been raped by seven men. HORRIBLE! they were recording the rape and this has spread all over. The young girl was gone missing in March 2012 and was found after the video came out. The video is over just 10minutes and the girl was screaming "your forcing me", The goverment has asked everyone who has the video on their mobile phone or anywhere else to delete it or can be charged for the country's sexual offence law.

8 people have been arrested for kidnap and rape and I just hope the girl is doing fine now.. PLEASE LADIES if you have been RAPED or even sexually HARRASED by any male(s) do not KEEP SILENCE!! speak because there is help..
It may hurt but the quicker you report it the sooner they can get the person behind bars, RAPE is not the way forward!!!!!!!!

young lady was doung the azonto dance. since then it was spread accros
the world and many started to do the dance and Ghanaian artists made

2011 the azonto dance was everywhere and every african party you attend
there was a so called 'Azonto competition' now in 2012 it is still
going strong but the question is for how long?

The Ghanaian singer based in Germany has been a great example of the modern hiplife. He was such a success in the late '80s and '90s. with over 25 albums he bought Hi-life into a different level and has hit singles like 'Wo Ho Kyere, Obi Ate Meso Bo, Poison, Pony, Tokrom and many more. And the recent collabo with Sarkodie (Rapper and artist of the year 2012) I dont think its over for mr Lumba we will surely hear from him soon!!
